Website creation tools are quite ubiquitous these days. Some of the most popular website platforms are Joomla, Drupal, Sharepoint, Magento, Magnolia, and (of course) WordPress. Now, we could write a book on each and every platform, but for the sake of sanity (both ours and yours), we’ll stick to WordPress. It’s one we keep coming back to because, well, it’s a little magical. We’re sharing our top 6 reasons WordPress is a Website Wizard (say that 10x fast). For those trying to make an informed choice, we’ve also included 3 of the drawbacks to the platform.

1. An Open Source Website Platform

In case you didn’t know, WordPress is open-source. That means it’s an incredible cost-conscious opportunity. You have thousands of collaborators building tools, templates, and plugins at every price range. It’s not a singular entity. It’s the ultimate group project, which means there’s no overhead cost to cover, and, therefore, it’s free to use!

2. A Powerful Website

Right out of the box you get a boatload of powerful tools and flexibility. With intuitive publishing tools, user and media management just to name a few, It’s a grocery store of incredible tools you can utilize to really make your site shine.

3. A Website That’s Easy to Manage

When great minds get together, you get something simple yet incredibly efficient. WordPress is one of the easiest platforms to manage, especially when it comes to content. Running a blog is so incredibly simple even your intern can do it. (Yeah, we know that’s how many of you work. ;))

4. A Popular Website Platform

WordPress is a very widely used website creation tool. This means not only is there an abundance of support, there’s also no end to useful plugins you can purchase to help you customize your site.

In the age of the internet, it can be hard to stand out. WordPress’s popularity has led to endless customizations to help your brand keep its uniqueness. (Because it’s so popular, there are a lot of plugins and contributions being written for just about anything you need)

5. A Website Platform That’s an SEO Wizard

What good is a website that can’t be found by Google (or Bing)? One of our favorite things about WordPress is that it is built to be SEO friendly. Out of the box WordPress generates code that follows the SEO best practices to ensure your site is optimized from the ground up. Search Engine Optimization is such a staple part of every website that knowing that your website platform works well with search engines means you know your website will be found.

6. A Website Platform That’s Easy to Install and Update

Finally, WordPress is easy to install and easy to update. Some companies can’t afford to take a lot of time fiddling with their website and figuring it out. WordPress has many templates to choose from that make it easy to find a customized setup. Then as your business or marketing approach changes you can easily reflect the new strategies on your website. Even a complete overhaul is pretty straightforward once you know what you’re doing.

3 Ways the Wizard Turns Dark

1. The Dark Magic of WordPress

With so many positives about the website creation tool, we would be remiss not to discuss a few reasons why WordPress is not always the right fit. The first drawback is the natural limitation of open source. It can be sparse in rich file sharing or repositories. While there are a ton of options, the options that are fleshed out enough to really nail everything you want them to are fewer.

2. The Vulnerabilities of WordPress

If you aren’t swift with your updates, PHP vulnerabilities spring up. This can lead to a number of issues, so the upkeep can be more manual than you might like. The good news is that updating is simple (see point 6 above), so the issue is mitigated.

3. The Pitfalls of WordPress as an Open Source

Open source is both a positive and a negative for WordPress. The reason it can be a downfall is when it comes to plugins. There is a plethora of plugins available, but because there’s not some bigwig of a company to oversee quality control, you get some plugins that are poorly written and could cause vulnerabilities for your site.
